NAFTZ Hosts Successful Fundamentals Seminar in Orlando, FL
This year’s Fundamentals Seminar kicked off January 8 with grantees, operator/users, and third-party service providers coming together in Orlando to discuss the purpose of the FTZ program, program basics, and operational requirements. With attendance at a four-year high, participants enjoyed an evening of networking with experienced and new members of the FTZ community during the Sunday Welcome Reception.
The educational sessions were led by Torrey Chambliss, Manager for Foreign-Trade Zone and Cargo Business Development at Port Tampa Bay and Diana Urelius, Assistant Secretary & Senior Compliance Manager at Mitsubishi Caterpillar Forklift America Inc. They shared their experiences and perspectives on FTZ operation from a grantee and operator/user standpoint. The two led dynamic discussions with plenty of audience participation.
NAFTZ was excited to have guest speaker, Sarah Messeih, Senior Associate in KPMG’s Trade and
Customs practice. She discussed the importance of conducting a project feasibility study, FTZ administration in the short and long term, and forming a strong FTZ implementation team and having an internal advocate among other factors to ensure a successful implementation of your zone.
The event concluded with a presentation from NAFTZ President Erik Autor, who summarized many of the immediate and practical benefits of NAFTZ membership. He also addressed professional development opportunities that are available through the association, specifically by providing details on the Accredited Zones Specialist (AZS) program.
We want to thank our valued conference attendees, presenters, and sponsors – PTSI, FTZ Corp, Port of Houston Authority, GTKonnect, ISCM, Inc., Integration Point, and Indigo Trade Solutions – for participating in Fundamentals 2017.
